What Australian providers publish for mini abdominoplasty

A mini tummy tuck addresses skin below the navel only. It is cheaper than a full abdominoplasty, and it is much less likely to qualify for a Medicare rebate.

Reading these figures

  • Providers disagree about whether a mini can ever attract a rebate, and both positions are defensible. MBS eligibility turns on clinical criteria - documented weight loss, skin pathology, functional impairment - not on whether the surgery is labelled “mini” or “full”. There is no MBS item that names mini abdominoplasty.
  • A mini is not a cheaper version of the same operation. It does not address skin above the navel and usually does not include muscle repair. If you need those, a mini will not deliver them at any price.
  • A surgeon’s fee is not the price you pay. Where a provider publishes a surgeon-only fee, hospital/theatre and anaesthetist charges are billed on top and can add several thousand dollars.
  • These are advertised starting prices at a point in time. They are not averages, they change frequently, and they vary by state and by complexity.
  • There is no independent survey of cosmetic surgery prices in Australia. This is a compilation of what providers publish about themselves, not market research.
  • Nothing here is a quote. Only an itemised written quote from a practitioner who has assessed you is reliable.

Medicare and this procedure

There is no MBS item for a “mini” abdominoplasty as such. Eligibility is assessed against the same criteria as a full abdominoplasty, which a mini procedure will rarely satisfy.

MBS item
What it covers and who qualifies
Schedule fee
30166
Removal of redundant abdominal skin and lipectomy as a wedge excision, for functional problems following significant weight loss equivalent to at least 5 BMI points, with stable weight for at least 6 months
$897.70
30177
Lipectomy for redundant abdominal skin and fat directly consequent on significant weight loss, in conjunction with a radical abdominoplasty
$1,179.70

The eligibility criteria are strict and all must be met. Item 30177 requires: intertrigo or another skin condition that risks loss of skin integrity and has failed three months of conventional treatment; and the redundant skin and fat interferes with activities of daily living; and weight has been stable for at least six months following significant weight loss. “Significant weight loss” is defined as a loss equivalent to at least five BMI points. Benefits are not available for cosmetic purposes. Fees are schedule fees as at the 1 July 2026 indexation, checked 25 August 2026. Confirm at MBS Online.

A schedule fee is not a rebate. Medicare pays 75-85% of the schedule fee depending on the setting, and the gap between it and what a surgeon actually charges is yours to pay. MBS fees are reindexed every 1 July. Confirm the current fee and criteria at MBS Online rather than relying on any figure republished elsewhere - including ours.

Mini tummy tuck cost - frequently asked questions

Clear answers to the most common mini tummy tuck price and coverage questions in Australia.

How much does a mini tummy tuck cost in Australia?

Most private cosmetic quotes fall around $7,000-$14,000+ AUD. Your surgeon, hospital, anaesthetist, city, and any add‑on liposuction or repairs will influence the final price. You’ll receive a written quote after consultation.

Is a mini tummy tuck cheaper than a full tummy tuck?

Usually, yes. Mini abdominoplasty targets the lower abdomen and often takes less time. If you add liposuction, muscle repair or an overnight stay, your total can approach full abdominoplasty pricing. Compare mini vs full.

Can I claim any costs through Medicare or private health?

Not typically for mini tummy tuck. Some MBS item numbers exist for medically necessary scenarios (e.g., after massive weight loss) but eligibility is narrow and requires a valid GP referral. Without an applicable MBS item number, private health does not contribute. See Medicare & private health rules.

What’s included in the quote - and what isn’t?

Quotes generally include surgeon, anaesthetist and facility fees, plus standard follow‑ups and a garment. Medications, pre‑op tests and additional liposuction may be billed separately. Always review your written inclusions. Check inclusions.

Do you offer payment plans?

Many patients explore finance through external providers. Learn about options, timing and considerations on our Finance & payment options page.

How does recovery affect the overall cost?

Recovery itself doesn’t change the procedure fee, but time off work and support needs are part of your planning. Review mini tummy tuck recovery and our broader recovery and aftercare guidance.
